Most Common Head Injuries in Adults

Many people go to the hospital due to head injuries. Head injuries are precarious, and you should ensure that you are treated hastily. There are instances where you might have a headache or a brain contusion, and people assume these symptoms. Getting constant head injuries might lead to brain disease. Most people who get head injuries are people who play various sports. However, concussions are never painful, and people often ignore these concussions. This blog will shed some light on the different head injuries adults have to deal with in their lives.

The first head injury is the fractured skull. When you fracture your skull, you will be in excruciating pain. There will be a lot of blood on your head, and you should seek medical attention immediately. The sole reason why there is a lot of blood during these types of injuries is because of the high-density vessels found in the head. Fractures are very serious because your bone fragments might cut the brain tissue. The skull fracture can cause bruising on the brain. Another head injury that you need to look out for is the Epidural Hematoma.

This hematoma is caused when there is draining in the head caused when one of the veins in the skull is torn. For your vein to tear, your skull will be damaged. The excess blood produced during this injury is stored between the skull and the dura. The constant accumulation of the blood in the head is referred to as a hematoma. When the hematoma grows in the head it can make someone pass out. The third head injury that you need to know about is the acute subdural hematoma. In this type of hematoma, blood is usually found at the center of the dura and cerebrum.

The main cause of this injury is when you bump your head on a hard surface. An acute subdural hematoma is dangerous, and you should visit a hospital immediately. Another type of head injury common in adults is the chronic subdural hematoma. The hematoma is not similar to the others because it does not grow faster.

The most notable side effect of this hematoma is seizures. The best way to avoid this head injury is to avoid any head accidents in the future. The last head injury is the intraparenchymal hemorrhaging. This injury is caused by the accumulation of blood in the brain tissue. If you find yourself with a head injury, see a doctor immediately.
